A Tampa-specific guide to mounting your TV cleanly — wall types, mount choice, cable hiding, and what to ask before you book.
Know your wall before you buy a mount
Most Tampa interiors are standard drywall over wood studs. But many older Seminole Heights and South Tampa homes have plaster, and almost every exterior wall in the area is concrete block. The mount and hardware change for each.
Choosing the right mount
- Fixed mount: cleanest look, lowest profile — best when you're sitting directly in front
- Tilting mount: small downward tilt for TVs above a fireplace
- Full-motion: pulls out and swivels, ideal for kitchens and corner rooms
Hiding the cables
On drywall with an outlet below, an in-wall cable kit is the cleanest fix — power passes through a recessed bracket and HDMI runs inside the wall cavity. On block walls or where there's no nearby outlet, a paintable raceway is the safe, code-compliant option.
What to ask your installer
- Are you mounting into studs, anchors, or block?
- Is the bracket rated for my TV's weight + 50%?
- Will cables be hidden in-wall, in a raceway, or left exposed?
- Do you bring a level, stud finder, and SDS drill for block?
