A 75" TV was mounted above a gas fireplace on a tile surround in a SoHo townhome — articulating mount, in-wall power, and cables completely hidden.
The Challenge
The SoHo townhome had a gas fireplace with a floor-to-ceiling tile surround. The homeowner wanted a 75" TV above the fireplace with zero visible cables — including hiding both the power and HDMI through the wall without cutting tile.
Our Solution
We used a full-motion articulating mount rated for 125 lbs, drilled through the tile and into the concrete block substrate behind with masonry bits and sleeve anchors. An in-wall power kit runs power behind the drywall adjacent to the tile surround — one receptacle behind the TV, connected to one at the component level. HDMI and optical run through the same chase.
The Result
The TV tilts down 15° for viewing from the sofa. Zero visible cables. The tile surround is undamaged. The homeowner specifically mentioned the clean install in an online review.
Work Completed
- Locate concrete block through tile using masonry probe
- Drill and install sleeve anchors — 4 points of attachment
- Articulating full-motion mount — 18" extension, 15° tilt
- In-wall power kit — receptacle at TV and at component level
- HDMI and optical cable routed in-wall through same chase
- Zero visible cables on tile or wall
Questions About This Project
Is it safe to mount a TV above a gas fireplace?
Yes, with the right mount. We use an articulating arm that tilts the screen down so viewing is comfortable and the TV face is angled slightly away from direct heat rise. For electric fireplaces, we also check for hot-air venting direction.
