A Bloomingdale homeowner added an outdoor-rated 65" TV under their covered lanai — weatherproof mount, GFCI outlet added and HDMI run through conduit.
The Challenge
The Bloomingdale homeowner had an existing covered lanai with no outlet in the right location for a TV. They wanted a 65" outdoor-rated TV mounted and operational before a football season.
Our Solution
We mounted the outdoor TV on a heavy-duty outdoor swivel mount on an exterior stucco wall under the lanai. We added a GFCI outlet adjacent to the mount location by pulling from an existing exterior circuit — all connections in weatherproof boxes. HDMI ran through 1/2" conduit from the TV location to the outdoor media cabinet.
The Result
The outdoor entertainment setup was ready in a single day. The GFCI outlet passes code and the weatherproof mount has lasted 2 Tampa storm seasons without issue.
Work Completed
- Heavy-duty outdoor swivel mount — rated 250 lbs
- New GFCI outlet on exterior — pull from existing exterior circuit
- All outdoor connections in UL-listed weatherproof enclosures
- HDMI run through 1/2" EMT conduit to outdoor media cabinet
- TV mounted, leveled and first-power test done
Questions About This Project
Do I need a weatherproof TV for a covered lanai?
A covered lanai protects against direct rain but not humidity, temperature swings or occasional spray. We recommend outdoor-rated (IP55 or better) TVs for covered lanais in Florida. Standard indoor TVs will fail within 1–2 seasons.
