A Clearwater homeowner had both toilets replaced — original 1980s 3.5-gpf units swapped for modern 1.28-gpf comfort-height models. Water savings and improved function.
The Challenge
The homeowner's 1985 Clearwater home had the original 3.5-gallon-per-flush toilets, both of which ran periodically and used significantly more water than modern low-flow units. The homeowner also wanted comfort-height (ADA-compliant 17") toilets for aging-in-place.
Our Solution
We removed both original toilets, inspected the flanges (both in good condition), replaced the closet bolts and wax rings, and installed two Toto Entrada elongated comfort-height toilets at 1.28 gpf. New braided supply lines and supply valves installed at both locations.
The Result
Both toilets flush perfectly with no running. The comfort-height seats are noticeably easier to use. Water bill savings are estimated at $15–$20/month based on the usage reduction.
Work Completed
- Remove 2 original 1980s toilets
- Inspect flanges — both in good condition, no repair needed
- Replace closet bolts at both locations
- Install 2 Toto Entrada elongated comfort-height toilets
- New wax rings, new braided supply lines, new angle stops
- Test both — no leaks, flush test 3×
Questions About This Project
What is a comfort-height toilet?
A comfort-height (also called chair-height or ADA-height) toilet has a seat surface 17–19" from the floor — about the same as a chair. Standard toilets are 15–16". Most people find comfort-height easier to sit and stand from, especially as they age.
