A Triple Creek master bath got a new 12×24 porcelain floor installed over cement board — replacing damaged original ceramic tile. Completed in 2 days.
The Challenge
Three of the 12×12 ceramic tiles in the master bath had cracked — one near the toilet, two near the vanity. The homeowner decided to replace the entire floor rather than patch-match the discontinued ceramic.
Our Solution
We removed all existing tile, checked the cement board for damage (needed one 12×18" patch near the toilet flange area), installed 1/4" additional backer where needed, and set 12×24 light-gray porcelain with 3/16" joints in a straight lay. Grouted with a sanded light-gray grout and sealed after 72 hours.
The Result
The new 12×24 porcelain looks dramatically better than the original 12×12 and is coordinated with the shower tile the owners had installed the previous year.

- Set 12×24 light-gray porcelain — straight lay, 3/16" joints
- Remove and reset toilet (new wax ring)
- Grout with sanded light gray — sealed at 72 hours
Questions About This Project
Do you remove and reset the toilet when replacing bathroom tile?
Yes — toilets must come out and go back in on a new wax ring whenever we tile the floor they sit on. We include this in our standard tile floor estimate.
