A Kenwood homeowner replaced their tank water heater with a Rinnai tankless unit — gas supply confirmed adequate, exhaust vented through exterior wall.
The Challenge
The homeowner wanted to replace their aging 40-gal tank with a tankless unit to free up closet space and eliminate the risk of a tank failure flooding the floor. The bungalow had a natural gas supply and an exterior wall adjacent to the mechanical closet for venting.
Our Solution
We confirmed the existing 3/4" gas line was adequate for the Rinnai RUR199iN (a recirculating model). We removed the old tank, installed the Rinnai wall-mount unit, ran a new concentric PVC vent through the exterior wall with proper pitch and sealed penetration. New gas flex, water connections and condensate drain. Coordinated with a licensed plumber for the gas connection inspection.
The Result
Endless hot water and the mechanical closet gained 15 sq ft. The homeowner noted the first hot shower was noticeably faster than with the tank unit.
