A Westchase homeowner upgraded all kitchen and bathroom outlets to GFCI and replaced 8 standard outlets with dual-USB-C charging outlets throughout the home.
The Challenge
The 1994 Westchase home had original outlets throughout — non-GFCI in the kitchen and bathrooms (a code deficiency) and no USB charging outlets anywhere. The homeowner wanted to bring the home up to current code standards and add convenience charging outlets.
Our Solution
We replaced all kitchen counter and bathroom outlets with GFCI models (6 total), installed weatherproof GFCI on the exterior, and replaced 8 standard living area outlets with dual-USB-A/C combination outlets in the most-used charging locations.
The Result
The home is now code-compliant at all wet-area locations. The USB-C charging outlets eliminated the need for charger bricks at all the main locations where family members charge devices.
Work Completed
- 6 GFCI outlets — kitchen counters and both bathrooms
- 1 GFCI weatherproof outlet — exterior
- 8 dual USB-A/USB-C combination outlets — living areas and bedrooms
- All outlets tested with outlet tester before completion
Questions About This Project
Are GFCI outlets required in bathrooms and kitchens in Florida?
Yes — the National Electrical Code (adopted in Florida) requires GFCI protection for all outlets within 6 feet of a sink in bathrooms and kitchens, and for all exterior outlets. We can upgrade your home to current code standards.
