A 2006 FishHawk Ranch master bath with an aging fiberglass surround was converted into a walk-in shower with large-format porcelain tile and frameless glass.
The Challenge
The homeowners had a standard 5-ft fiberglass tub-surround from the original 2006 build. Grout had failed along the tub seam, water had wicked behind the surround, and the subfloor under the tub edge showed soft spots from moisture. The couple wanted a walk-in shower and had been putting off the project for years.
Our Solution
We demoed the fiberglass unit, removed the soft subfloor section and sistered new plywood to restore a solid base. We applied a Schluter KERDI waterproof membrane system over cement board, set 12×24 porcelain on the walls and 2×4 mosaic on the shower floor with a linear drain. The job finished with a frameless glass panel, a Moen Align pressure-balance valve and a rainfall head.
The Result
The bathroom went from a 2006 builder bathroom to a clean, modern spa-style shower. The owners listed their home 4 months later and the bathroom was called out specifically in the listing as a highlight.
