Land O' Lakes took its name in the late 1940s from the chain of lakes — Lake Padgett, Lake Thomas, Lake Saxon, Bell Lake — that still defines the older side of town, where the sawmill settlement of Ehren is remembered only in Ehren Cutoff. The 1960s–80s block ranches on those ski lakes and the acreage homes off US-41 bring docks, decks, sheds and long fence lines that need real carpentry.
